The Underground Trader: Is The World Passing Me By?

The Underground Trader

The Underground Trader posts are authored by a long-time friend and colleague who specializes in trading futures and options. The Underground Trader is a very close watcher of the indices and is a market junkie who cruises message boards, trading groups, news feeds and opinion sites for any edge he can get. Do not bet the ranch on any of his comments but they are usually interesting and definitely food for thought.

From The Underground Trader:

IS THE WORLD PASSING ME BY? If so, I really do not want it to know where I am at every moment of the day. But apparently millions of young people do, with the most explosive segment of the social networking universe being "GeoSocial Networking", which has many variations but basically revolves around GPS-enabled cellphones and location tracking. We have all heard of Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and likely LinkedIn, but have you heard of Foursquare, Rummble, Gowalla, Loopt and BlockChalk? Foursquare is the hottest of the bunch, having just won recognition from the World Economic Forum as a "Tech Pioneer", an award a young Google won several years ago. The two million Foursquare members engage in some rather silly (to me) game-playing but also engage is some very cool (to me) location-based networking. The 500-lb. gorilla FaceBook, however, has recognized the opportunity and is coming on fast as a competitor. Or should I say 500-million members worldwide FaceBook, which totally rules the social networking universe and is the never-ending subject of IPO speculation. An unauthorized movie about FaceBook's founder Mark Zuckerberg ("The Social Network") premiers October 1st, which should only add more fuel to the rumor mill. It was recently reported that FaceBook is finally 'cash flow positive' and most reports have an IPO happening sometime in 2012. Estimates have FaceBook's revenue at $1.76 billion for 2011.
