Business Optimism Surveys: There is Good News and Bad news
The good news is bigger businesses are more optimistic about the future.
The Business Roundtable CEO Economic Outlook Index surged a record 26.6 points in the 4th quarter to a reading 71.5. It is important to note that this is the first reading above 50 since the 3rd quarter of 2008.
On a year-over-year basis, the index is up a record 55.0 points from its level a year ago.
The bad news is that smaller businesses do not share the optimism.
The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index fell -0.8 points in November to a reading of 88. It was the first decline in the index in four months.
Businesses continued to struggle with poor sales, which was once again listed as their most important concern. However, Sales expectations over the next three months, improved two points to a reading of -2%, which is actually its best reading since September 2008.
