The State of the Shopping Season: November Same-Store Sales
According to StreetAccount.com, which has established itself as a leader in the analysis of retail results, the large majority of retailers same-store sales numbers fell short of expectations today.
StreetAccount points out that of the 30 companies that reported results over the past two days, 8 have come in either equal to or ahead of consensus while 22 have come up short. This 27%/73% beat/miss ratio represents a sharp decline from last month's 58/42% and is the lowest since March of 2008.
In addition, this is only the third time in the last five years that less than 30% of retailers have exceeded expectations.
Retailers that came in with November same-store sales ahead of expectations included: Limited Brands (LTD), Ross Stores (ROST), American Eagle Outfitters (AEO), Wet Seal (WTSLA), Nordstrom (JWN), and Kohls (KSS).
Those with big misses included Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF), Children’s Place (PLCE), Dillard’s (DDS), JC Penny (JCP), and Macy’s (M).
