Economic Update: Architecture Billing Index

The American Institute of Architects reported that their Architecture Billings Index rose to 48.7 in July from 45.9 in June. This represents the highest level since March, 2012.

The new projects inquiry index improved to 56.3 from 54.4.

AIA Chief Economist, Kermit Baker noted that "Even though architecture firm billings nationally were down again in July, the downturn moderated substantially... As long as overall economic conditions continue to show improvement, modest declines should shift over to growth in design activity over the coming months.”
