Economic Update: University of Michigan’s Consumer Sentiment Index
The final reading for the University of Michigan’s Consumer Sentiment Index for June was reported at 73.2, which was below the consensus for 74.0 and last month’s reading of 79.3. According to CNBC, this is the lowest reading of the year.
Note that there are two reports for the Confidence Index each month: Preliminary and Final.
Last 12 months for comparison purposes:
- May: 79.3
- April: 76.4
- March: 76.2
- February: 75.3
- January: 75.0
- December: 69.9
- November: 64.1
- October: 60.9
- September: 59.4
- August: 55.7
- July: 63.7
- June: 71.8
The Current Conditions component was reported at 81.5, which was below the preliminary 82.1 and May’s reading of 87.2.
Finally, the twelve month Economic Outlook came in at 67.8, below the initial read of 68.9 and May’s reading 74.3 (April: 75.7, Mar: 69.8, Feb: 70.3, Jan; 69.1, Dec: 63.6, Nov: 55.4).
