Economic Update: Chicago Purchasing Managers Index
The Chicago Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) for January was reported at 60.2, which was below the consensus expectations for a reading of 62.3. This was the lowest reading since August.
Also note that the overall reading remains well above the 50 level, which indicates the expansion continues in the region.

- January 2011: 68.8
The Prices Paid component came in at 62.4 vs. 63.8 in December.
New Orders: 63.6 vs. 67.1 last month.
Employment: 54.7 vs. 59.2
The Chicago PMI is designed to indicate the health of the manufacturing sector in the region.
