Economic Update: University of Michigan’s Consumer Sentiment Index
The final reading for the University of Michigan’s Consumer Sentiment Index for January was reported at 75.0, which was above the consensus for a reading of 74.2 and above the initial read of 74.0.
Note that there are two reports for the Confidence Index each month: Preliminary and Final.
Last 12 months for comparison purposes:
- December: 69.9
- November: 64.1
- October: 60.9
- September: 59.4
- August: 55.7
- July: 63.7
- June: 71.8
- May: 74.3

The Current Conditions component was reported at 84.2, which was above the preliminary reading of 82.6 and December’s 79.6 (November: 77.6).
Finally, the twelve month Economic Outlook came in at 69.1, which was above the preliminary 68.4 and December’s 63.6 and (Nov: 55.4).
