Durable Goods Report Above Expectations in December

Economic Update: Orders for Durable Goods
Orders for long-lasting goods rose in December. The Commerce Department reported that Durable Goods orders were up +3.0% during the month, which was better than the consensus expectations for +2.2%.
Last 12 month readings for comparison purposes:
- November: +4.3
- October: -0.5
- September: -1.5%
- August: -0.1%
- July: +4.1%
- June: -1.3%
- May: +1.9%
- April: -3.6%
- March: +4.4%
- February: +0.7%
- January: +3.6%
When you strip out the volatile orders for transportation, orders rose by +2.1%, which was above the consensus for +0.8%.
Finally the proxy for capital spending rose by +2.9%.
