Europe Update: Germany’s GDP Contracted in Q4
German GDP fell by -0.25% in the fourth quarter. This was the first quarter of negative GDP growth and thus does not provide a recession signal.
However, on an annual basis, GDP grew by 3.0% during the final quarter of the year. This is down from the 3.7% annual rate seen during 2010.
The growth rates in Germany are sure to be closely watched going forward as the country is the strongest economy in the Eurozone.
