China Economic Update: Purchasing Managers’ Index
China’ PMI came in at 52.0 in May, which was below the consensus and the 52.9 reading seen in April. For comparison purposes March: 53.4, February: 52.2, January: 52.9).
May marked the 27th straight month that Chinese manufacturing sector was in expansionary territory. However, the May PMI reading was the weakest in 10 months.
Readings above 50 indicate the sector is expanding while readings below 50 are indicative of contraction.
